1. WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are small files installed on the USER’s device when visiting a website, intended to store data that can be updated and retrieved by the entity responsible for their installation. If the USER does not register or leave personal information on the site, the server will know that someone with that cookie returned to the website but will be unable to associate the browsing activity with a specific USER.
2. WHAT TYPES OF COOKIES EXIST?
Cookies can be classified by their expiration as session or persistent cookies. Session cookies expire when the user closes the browser, while persistent cookies remain for a longer period, allowing data to be accessed and processed.
They can also be classified based on the entity managing the device or domain from which the cookies are sent and the data processed:
- First-party cookies: sent to the USER’s device from a domain managed by the Website Owner and used to provide the requested service.
- Third-party cookies: sent to the USER’s device from a domain not managed by the Website Owner, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies.
Cookies can also be classified by their purpose:
- Technical Cookies: allow the USER to navigate a website, platform, or application and use its various features, such as traffic control, data communication, session identification, or order processing.
- Personalization Cookies: allow the USER to access the service with predefined general features based on criteria such as language or browser type.
- Analytics Cookies: allow tracking and analysis of user behavior on linked websites. The collected information is used to measure activity and create browsing profiles to improve services.
- Advertising Cookies: enable efficient management of advertising spaces included by the publisher on a website, application, or platform, based on content or ad frequency.
3. HOW TO DISABLE OR DELETE COOKIES?
The USER can configure their browser to prevent cookie installation or to receive a notification each time a cookie attempts to install, allowing them to decide whether to accept it. The USER can also delete installed cookies by changing browser settings or manually removing them. Note that deleting cookies may reduce website quality or functionality.
